Solar-Hochhaus
Studentenprojekt für ein Hochhaus, Zürich, 2019

With the given ambition to design a high-rise in the context of Brunau, a relation towards infrastructural towers, as for example mining towers, established. The building orientates accordingly to this type, creating the image of a large crane. Within the nature of the crane comes the weight it has to lift.
We thus suggest a high-rise that is built upon a spaceframe which carries a heavy concrete ring on the outside and spans up a fabric in the atrium slowly in- and exhaling dependent to the latters movement. Twice a day the ring on the outside of the building, inhabiting a garden, rises or sinks by the apartments. Next to its programmatic aspect, the concrete ring and the mass of the garden inside contribute to the needed weight of 5’500 tons in order to store enough potential energy to power the high-rise for a whole day.
